This was a speculative design project for a new nursery school building. The design was developed in response to a perceived need for the relocation of nursery groups currently using village hall facilities, to purpose-designed nursery buildings. The building was laid out around a simple structural system offering flexibility for the specific needs of different sites and users. Straw bale walls sit within a round timber column frame which supports a light weight roof. Local materials were chosen for their environmental performance and low embodied energy.
